Azealia Banks is guiltlessly racking up her roster of industry foes in practically every corner of Hollywood, from the rap world with RZA, Remy Ma and Cardi B all the way to the small screen circle with folks like then-14-year-old Skai Jackson.
She now has fellow Harlemite and singer, dance icon and model Teyana Taylor on her hit list, as told by a shady accusation she made regarding the Shumpert matriarch’s choreography talents.
Azealia posted a behind-the-scenes clip to Instagram of the choreo for her commemoratory track titled “Anna Wintour,” inspired by the famed fashion guru and longtime Vogue editor-in-chief. The Ice Princess is donned in a form-fitting crop top and curve-hugging shorts as she whips, rocks, rolls and poses to the beat. A fan pointed out that the vibes from the footage is reminiscent of Taylor’s widely-celebrated, iconic cameo in Kanye West’s “FADE” visual, which premiered during the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards.
Azealia’s response to the fan, however, hinted at something not so celebratory.
“@kevinlibrado lol you mean the chorography she stole from @bornready_matt and tried not to give him credit for until he got a lawyer involved…” she wrote back to the fan.
Neither Matthew Pasterisa, the alleged “FADE” original choreographer in question, nor Teyana responded to Azealia’s comment, despite several fans tagging them both in responses to the Harlem rapper. There’s also no public knowledge of any lawsuits or legal combat between them either, but instead, an interview where Teyana credited her co-choregraphy with Pasterisa following the overwhelmingly positive reception of the video.
“By the way, the dance scene at the very, very end, maybe the last eight counts that I did; me and one of my homeboys Matthew Pasterisa actually made that choreography for Beyoncé for when the ‘End of Time’ came out,” the GOOD Music signee shared with Vogue magazine. “She loved it but she wound up not being able to use it because she was pregnant, but back then the world didn’t know. All this time that choreography was just sitting there. And as soon as I was freestyling it just came out naturally.”
Thus, Azealia’s accusation should probably be taken with just a small pinch of salt.
