According to a newly-surfaced photo, someone thought it’d be a nifty idea to vandalize the childhood home belonging to Fayetteville, North Carolina rap prodigy J. Cole, a residence that he repurchased and repurposed into a rent-free home for single mothers and families right on his home turf.
The photo circulated heavily across social media showing the residence that Cole grew up in, which also inspired his third studio album 2014 Forest Hills Drive, defaced with an ironically nonsensical phrase: “J. Cole…Do you even care about the ville?”
In 2014, the KOD artist bought the home back after his mother lost it to foreclosure years prior. “My goal is to have that be a haven for a family," Cole said on Combat Jack in light of the purchase. "So every two years, a new family will come in and live rent-free. The idea is that it's a single mother with multiple kids. I want her kids to feel how I felt when we got the house."
According to ABC 11, his team did not confirm when the defacing occurred nor has Fayetteville police been involved, as they claim it was not reported. Thankfully, the words have since been painted over. But fans are rightfully livid about the vandalism, and they’ve got some choice words for the spray-painting perpetrator.
