Drake threw us all for a curve ball.
Releasing a trio of chart-topping bangers before the release of Scorpion—“God’s Plan, “Nice For What,” and “I’m Upset”— it was safe to assume that his fifth studio album would be packed with the easy, breezy, summer-dominating radio smashers we’d all appreciate amid a rather turbulent year in hip-hop. Yes, even after Drizzy’s ruthless rap battle with Pusha T, which his industry OG J Prince threw a muzzle on.
Instead, the Young Money all-star dropped a double-disc of R&B and hip-hop’s split personality (titled Side A and Side B), a handful of considerable digs at his rap nemesis King Push, and an unexpected upper cut for famed media star and book author, Charlamagne Tha God. Without a doubt, fans will still have their fair share of turn up hits to crown the next few months of summer 2018– after all, this is Drake we’re talking about.
But, the Toronto rap star hasn’t sunk fans this deep in their feelings since 2011’s Take Care, and their surge of dangerous and diverse emotions are now exploding all over the internet upon the release of Scorpion.
