While fans may know 21 Savage as Atlanta’s trap pharmacist-turned-trap rap star with the sharp dagger tattoo stamped on his forehead and brutal rhymes, we’ll have you know that he’s also well-versed in the circle of the softer, more sensual R&B genre, too.
Allow him to demonstrate with yet another solo rendition of a more recent rhythm and blues smooth jam, SZA’s “The Weekend.”
After throwing down hilarious vocals on SZA’s fan-raved CTRL single, he threw it way back with an SWV single, “When U Cry.” The mid-90s single, which comes from the girl group’s third studio album Release Some Tension is a worthy indicator of 21’s intelligible R&B savvy, too. Sampled from Tyrone Davis’s “In The Mood,” the single is one of the lesser-known gems from the SWV vault. Not for 21, though, who hilariously crooned its chorus right on-key, word-for-word.
And it doesn’t stop there. Check out more of 21’s hilarious R&B sessions from the genre’s top-tier vocalists, such as:
