Nicki Minaj has had one hell of a month since the release of her top-charting, fourth studio album, Queen.
After a scorching mouthful for DJ Self, a scathing war of words with ex-boyfriend Safaree, an awkwardly hilarious Tyga exposé, a cursing out from an unnamed rapper over her “Barbie Dreams” record, and a bold threat from DJ Envy, the Queen femcee has returned to the Twitterverse with a vengeance over the controversy of her album’s opening week sales.
Especially as it lines up beside another No. 1 album contender, Travis Scott’s August 3-released Astroworld. According to Nicki’s tweets, Travis’s top seat on the Billboard has every bit to do with an inflation attempt, courtesy of his 21-year-old girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, and her promotional Instagram post teasing an appearance from their daughter, Stormi Webster. Nicki’s not far behind with the No. 2 seat, selling 185,000 units with 78,000 from traditional sales. But there are a number of factors contributing to what she considers skewed numbers, which she ran down in a series of tweets unmasking the music industry’s biased favoritism and treatment toward women.
But now that some of her industry friends are blowing up her phone amid the stormy (no pun intended) Twitter soapbox, Nicki’s got a plot twist for it all.
The "Barbie Dreams" raptress said that she was being punished, so to speak, by Spotify, who washed their platform over with Drake during his big Scorpion release week despite his loyalty to one of their steaming service competitors, Apple Music.
