Kendrick Lamar Shared A Mac Miller Memory That Will Break Fans Down In Tears

"I swear to God I spoke about that moment forever..."

As friends, fans and family continue to mourn and memorialize the passing of Pittsburgh rapper Mac Miller, Hot 97’s Peter Rosenberg took a rather creative approach in honoring Easy Mac by compiling all of their remembrances in one for his latest Open Late segment.

Rosenberg handpicked a cluster of hip-hop and R&B artists to share their favorite memories and loving words for Mac in a eulogy-style compilation. Machine Gun Kelly, Lil Xan, Macklemore and Smoke DZA are just a few who made the cut. Compton rap icon Kendrick Lamar also shared his fondest moments with Mac, and his thoughtful speech in memory of the Swimming rapper will bring both tears of laughter and sadness from fans.

  1. In short, K-Dot just remembers Mac as a funny individual who always pulled up to the studio ready to work and have a good time

Kendrick said he’d always kept everyone laughing. He always shared the same sense of humor as his TDE counterparts, so the vibes and energy matched up perfectly, as Mac was always a pleasure to have over at the studio.

  2. Kendrick and Mac had their own little special game they played, too

He remembers playing “How Many Racks” with Mac, where they’d jokingly bounce questions off of each guesstimating “how many racks” they thought any specific artist probably makes. The day Kendrick bought his black G-wagon, he said he sent Mac a photo of the G-Wagon to kick off their inside joke.

“So, I send him a pic of the G-wagon, I say, ‘How many racks Kendrick Lamar has now?’” the DAMN rapper recollected. “And he sends back, ‘Kendrick Lamar never have racks like Mac Miller.’ Then, blasts off a white G-wagon he just got the same week—I swear to God, I fell out laughing.”

Afterward, they got fitting nicknames for each other in light of their coincidental luxury purchases.

  3. ‘I swear to God, I talked about that moment forever,’ Kendrick said in loving memory of the incident

Mac was always quick and clever with his jokes, Kendrick said, and Mac’s hilarious text message had made his whole day. As a true and selfless friend and artist, K-Dot added that he was always one to give honest opinions about anything you asked him about, too. His smile was as contagious as his energy, which Kendrick remembers as genuinely and consistently positive, despite his own trials he might have been struggling through.

“Great musician, great writer—just always had a smile on his face, and that’s something that I commend,” Kendrick said. “No matter what he was going through he was strong about it.”

We hope you’re up there smiling and swimming with the angels now, Mac.
