As R&B connoisseurs, we uphold a certain expectation when it comes to our faves. Queen of the octave range Mariah Carey has been dragged through the dirt one holiday season after another with her live renditions of her iconic hit, “All I Want For Christmas Is You" and that travesty from New Year’s Eve a couple years ago. Even our beloved heartbreak soulstress Toni Braxton has been ruthlessly read over lackluster performances as well. Granted, some may consider it a right of passage in some anomalous way. Yet, the first lady of Top Dawg Entertainment, SZA, is the latest subject of fans’ incessant ridicule.
The CTRL soulstress revealed on social media that her voice was "permanently injured" amid being pulled from TDE's Championship tour. A few weeks later she took to Twitter, yet again, to disclose that her injury wasn't permanent and that she had been working fiercely to get well, "slowly but surely."
Despite the fervent mockery, CTRL is one of the best R&B albums debuted from this new wave of artists.
