Pop songbird Ariana Grande has had one whirlwind of a year. Following the tragic death of beloved rapper Mac Miller, the Yours Truly singer called off her engagement to SNL comedian Pete Davidson. Despite dropping her fourth studio album, Sweetener, this past August, Ari blessed fans with “thank u, next.” She also alluded her forthcoming album is of the same name. Many stamped the surprise single as a diss track, but it’s more of an ode to her growth and self-love.
She name-dropped her famed exes immediately — Big Sean, Ricky Alvarez, Mac Miller and Pete — but the pre-chorus had many raising their eyebrows. “One taught me love/One taught me patience/And one taught me pain/Now, I'm so amazing,” she sang. Despite admitting she was thankful for her ex-fiancé, but what good is a song without some shade?
The rest of the internet turned her catchy hook into a viral meme. Twitter is notorious for taking the most innocent situations and turning them into hilarious tidbits for retweets and group chats worldwide.
