Da Brat Changes Her Tune After Refusing To Mute R. Kelly

"I was in denial. Wrong is wrong. Right is right."

Just as Erykah Badu was literally booed offstage for her views on R. Kelly, Chicago-bred femcee, Da Brat was served her walking papers as well. While speaking on the red carpet at the Trumpet Awards, Brat felt "the [victims'] parents need to take responsibility" and admitted that she will never stop listening to Robert's music. However, it seems that after receiving a plethora of backlash, So So Def's First Lady watched Lifetime's heartbreaking docuseries, Surviving R. Kelly and has since had a change of heart.

Being one of the co-hosts of the Rickey Smiley Morning Show, Brat used her platform to elucidate her statements. "I just need to make myself clear," she began. "I stayed up all night and watched the documentary over and I had to reevaluate myself."

  1. "I was in denial [...] I mean, you think know somebody and you don't," Da Brat admitted

During this period of reflection, the "Funkdafied" rapper confessed that "no one deserves this and no man or woman should ever have to endure sexual violence of any kind." She also apologized to the victims' parents for having to suffer through this ordeal. Brat revealed that this wasn't her time watching the docuseries, but during initial consumption, she "doesn't think she looked at it with the right view."

Growing up, she and Robert ran in the same circles. They, apparently, had the same god-mother, management team and called each other family.

  2. "Taking myself out of the 'who I knew,' I started to see it from the victim's view," she continued

Brat also mentioned that she's never supported pedophiles or people being sexually violated. "I'm a very caring and loving person and I would defend anybody's honor who's been violated. I don't need people thinking that I support pedophiles," she states.

Welp, there you have it. Peep her full sentiments below.
