Report: Here’s The Truth About Why Kendrick Lamar And SZA Won’t Be Performing At The Oscars

The TDE icons were slated to perform their Oscar-nominated "All the Stars" hit for the big night.

Of all the moments in silver screen’s annual big night, the 2019 Oscar Awards, the performance of Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “All the Stars” smash hit from Black Panther: The Soundtrack was among the highest anticipated. Sadly, that moment reportedly won’t exist for this year’s award ceremony, as announced by Variety.

  1. According to the site’s exclusive report, the Academy remained steadfast in nabbing the TDE rap star and neo-soul songstress for the performance of the Oscar-nominated single. With past controversies surrounding the lack of diversity in the Oscars nomination pool, it’s likely that some would speculate K-Dot and SZA’s solidarity with the snubbed community as reason for a no-show at this year’s ceremony. But as reported by Variety’s source, it’s simple scheduling conflicts.

  2. ‘Variety’ states that ‘logistic and timing’ is to blame for the Academy’s failure to lock in the TDE pair…

They also won’t be passing along the performance to any other acts, the source allegedly stated. “All the Stars” will also be the only track of the Best Original Songs category that will not be performed this year. Deadline also points out that despite K-Dot’s team trying to work with the Academy to secure the performance, he’s currently overseas. “Lamar, from what we’ve heard from sources outside [Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences], has been abroad and the closing four-week schedule post-noms was a challenge to turn around a stage performance that would do justice to ‘All the Stars,’” Deadline adds.

In the track’s absence from the show, the site concludes, “All the Stars” will be played against video clips in the ceremony.
