R. Kelly Reportedly Being Investigated For Failure To Pay Child Support

Kelly's attorney states that he's never seen anything like it before...

Even though R. Kelly became a free man as of Monday (February 25), his downward legal spiral amid 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse is far from over.

TMZ reports that the charged sexual predator is in the cross hairs of more Chicago prosecutors who are now seeking out criminal charges against him for failure to pay child support. The State’s Attorney is reportedly seeking over $160,000 in child support owed to his former wife, Andrea Kelly, who’s also cooperating with prosecutors to pin down the charge, the site adds.

  1. TMZ reports that Kelly could face the charge of a felony degree…

... as any failed child support payment surpassing $20,000 is considered felonious. He’s already up against nearly $200,000 in child support, which TMZ previously reported he’s mandated to pay by March 6 or face another arrest. “We are aware that they are bringing criminal charges for non-payment of child support and we support any and all efforts that will make sure that his children are taken care of,” Andrea’s team reportedly told TMZ.

  2. On the other hand, the charge comes as a curveball for Kelly’s attorney Steven Greenberg…

... whose alleged statement to TMZ strikes as a bit doubtful. The site claims that Greenberg claimed he’d never seen a prosecution for non-payment of child support in his three decades of a career in criminal defense law. “Maybe it happens, but I’ve never seen it done in Illinois,” TMZ reports of his statement.

Should Kelly be guilty as charged for the new charge, TMZ concludes that he’ll be back behind bars.
