We regret to report that father, philanthropist, community activist and hip-hop artist Nipsey Hussle has passed away after being shot six times outside of his Marathon Clothing Company in Hyde Park, Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon (March 31), according to Los Angeles Times and NBC News.
Hussle, born Ermias Asghedom, was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. At least two others were reportedly shot in the incident, though their condition is unknown. Video posted on social media showed paramedics attempting to revive Nipsey and he was later taken to a nearby hospital, as reported by law enforcement officials close to TMZ.
The celebrity news outlet reports that one man fled in a vehicle after the shooting.
Born in Los Angeles in 1986, Nipsey Hussle was one of the most prolific and fiercely independent rappers in the game, releasing a dozen mixtapes before dropping his debut studio album, Victory Lap, last year. It was nominated for Best Rap Album at the Grammy Awards. Hussle opened his retail clothing store, Marathon Store, in 2017, and is known for his extensive philanthropic work in his L.A. community, including opening a STEM and business center in the city just last year.
Prior to the Slauson-native's untimely passing, fans took notice that he'd tweeted an eerily portent message about the adveristy he'd presumably been facing as well. "Having strong enemies is a blessing," the tweet read.
Nipsey is survived by his wife Lauren London and his two children, Kross and Emani Asghedom. Our deepest prayers are with Nipsey’s family, friends and fans during this most difficult time.
