R. Kelly Held Without Bond, Deemed ‘Extreme Danger’
Chicago Tribune reports that embattled R&B singer and accused sexual predator R. Kelly will be held without bond, as ordered by a Chicago federal judge during a Tuesday (July 16) hearing.
The federal charges against Kelly holds that he paid whopping amounts of hush money to retrieve child pornography footage and pressure witnesses to alter their testimonies prior to his 2008 child pornography case, the site reports.
Despite being deemed an “extreme danger” to the community, Chicago Tribune adds that Steven Greenberg, Kelly’s defense attorney, insisted that he doesn’t pose a danger to the public because his charges are over a decade old. Greenberg asserted that the 52-year-old also wasn’t a flight risk given his attendance history for past court appearances, the site adds.
In one of the most shocking claims made by prosecutors, they also reportedly have three videos showing a 14-year-old girl being subjected to “sadomasochistic abuse,” presumably by Kelly.
U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber’s ruling overlaps Kelly’s separate indictment on a laundry list of federal sex crimes across the country, which he will reportedly appear in front of a New York judge for. Leinenweber’s decision reportedly resulted in the inability for Kelly’s lawyers to prove why a defendant facing child pornography charges shouldn’t be detained while pending trial.
