According to XXL, Compton rap newcomer Roddy Ricch will not be charged in the domestic violence case stemming from a physical altercation with his girlfriend in August 2019.
The site reports that the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office has confirmed that they declined to pursue a case against Roddy as there was not enough evidence. Therefore, all charges against the 21-year-old artist were dropped after the case was declined. A spokesperson from the DA’s office, Ricardo Santiago, confirmed the news to Pitchfork as well.
The news comes just five months after initial reports broke that Roddy was arrested in Los Angeles on felony domestic violence charges.
According to the TMZ report, an alleged argument between Roddy and his girlfriend at his Los Angeles home turned physical when he allegedly grabbed her during their dispute. Roddy's girlfriend did not require medical attention as a result of the incident, per TMZ’s report, and he was later released on a $50,000 bond after his arrest.
This latest development comes on the heels of Roddy Ricch’s recent surprise chart win over Justin Bieber. The rapper’s viral smash hit, “The Box,” went No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 — his first solo to do so. Following up the milestone, news that his widely raved debut album that houses the single, Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial, climbed back into the top spot on the Billboard 200 as well.
Roddy Ricch nor his team have publicly commented on the case at this time.
