In light of his latest tributes, Dreamchaser’s honcho Meek Mill gave fans a revelation on the joint album he was working on with Slauson’s guardian angel and hip-hop’s beloved late rap artist, Nipsey Hussle.
The Crenshaw MC was just coming into a promising music career when he was fatally shot in front of his Marathon clothing store. Fans have been remembering Nip’s legacy through the wisdom he extolled through his music and his entrepreneurial endeavors. Given that some of the collaborations he recorded have since been released, fans were wondering if the album that he and Meek were working on could be next.
Shortly before his passing, Nip revealed on Real 92.3 Los Angeles that he and the Meek were in the process of recording the joint album in March of 2019, with intentions to release the project that following summer. Unfortunately, Nip’s death occurred a few weeks later before it came to fruition.
During one of his #AskMeek Twitter Q&A sessions last Friday (Feb. 7), a fan asked Meek for a status update on the record. “We still getting that Meek & Nip project? The world needs to hear that if possible,” the fan tweeted at Meek, who promptly responded.
“We never finished it,” Meek revealed to the fan. According to him, the songs that they were able to finish will be left for Nipsey’s family. It’s not clear if Meek has any intentions of releasing the songs himself or if they will get a proper release.
This news comes on the heels of Meek’s tribute to his fallen brother-in-rhyme during his performance at the 2020 Grammys. Additionally, the Championships rapper paid homage to Nip in the music video for his latest single, “Believe.”
