After nearly three years of speculation and false starts, it appears that the arrival of Lil Uzi Vert’s long-awaited, Eternal Atake album is nearly upon us. Uzi’s fans have been waiting for his second studio album to drop since he announced the project in 2018.
After a string of singles — including the Backstreet Boys-sampled “That Way,” and “Futsal Shuffle” — Lil Uzi Vert released a short film teasing the full album on Tuesday (Mar. 3). He co-directed the visual alongside Gibson Hazard.
Titled BabyPluto, the video opens with Uzi as an office worker when he is suddenly bombarded with mysterious coordinates that send him on an adventure. This leads him to a field where a UFO has crash-landed and ends with Uzi’s abduction by extraterrestrial beings wearing purple dresses and floral headbands. Trippy enough for you?
The short film comes after Lil Uzi Vert previously rolled out a set of teasers for Eternal Atake that garnered comparisons to the infamous Heaven’s Gate cult. In 1997, 39 members of the Heaven’s Gate cult committed suicide in the wake of Hale-Bopp comet passing Earth, according to Rolling Stone. They died believing a spacecraft was trailing after the comet that would transport them from Earth ahead of what they predicted to be the planet’s demise.
Additionally, Uzi unveiled a set of three photos which are part of the album art for Eternal Atake, and let his fans vote on which option should be the final cover. Fans ended up going with the second choice, a visual of three women on the moon waving at spaceship that is hovering over a multi-hued Earth.
While the album still doesn't have an actual release date, Uzi has told his fans he was hoping to release the project on March 13, per Rap-Up.
