Run The Jewels frontman Killer Mike has never been one to shy away from discussing his stance on a myriad of political issues. The raptivist has also been a vocal supporter of 2020 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders since he first ran for the office in 2016.

  1. However, Killer Mike has found himself bumping heads with some people over his progressive politics, such was the case after his recent sentiment on Sanders. Mike recently compared Sanders to revered Civil Rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. following a tweet from Sanders imploring young people to get out and vote in the 2020 election on Friday (Mar. 6). Author and Bill and Hillary Clinton supporter Zachary Wood chimed in under the politician's original tweet where he made his displeasure for Sanders known.

“There's just something about you, [Bernie Sanders], that pisses me off,” Wood commented. Killer Mike soon responded with his own thoughts. “Your tweet better help me [to] understand I’m on the correct side of history. Thank [you],” he issued along with a screenshot of an article. The headline of the article read “Even Though He Is Revered Today, MLK Was Widely Disliked,” comparing the vitriol that Sanders receives to how MLK was regarded before his 1968 assassination.

  2. From there, an intense debate flowed. Many others quickly chimed in with their disapproval of the Mike’s comparison between Sanders and King. However, Killer Mike didn’t budge from his initial stance. “One of [us] actually knows and was trained in organizing by the people that organized with King and the [Southern Christian Leadership Conference],” Mike stated. “One of us is on Twitter attempting to advise that trained organizer. Chill and trust me [because] I’m talking facts, not propaganda.”

In a second tweet, he attested that he has the political acumen to back up his words.

“Mike is a Kingian Non-Violence method trained organizer and [has been a] mobilizer for 29yrs,” he wrote, adding in another tweet that he is “a direct student of his co-organizers."
