Jussie Smollet has been keeping a relatively low profile ever since he was accused of staging an alleged racist and homophobic hate crime against himself in Chicago last year.
The Empire star’s name became a fixture in headlines after he claimed he was attacked by two men near his Chicago apartment. The swell of public support turned against him after inconsistencies in his story popped up, resulting in a felony court case being brought against him. Comparatively, the Chicago police department also faced criticism after holes in their stories emerged as well. Smollet has maintained his innocence throughout the controversy, however.
On Wednesday (March 25), Jussie emerged from his solitude with a rare appearance to serenade his fans with an uplifting song about persevering through dark times amid the coronavirus outbreak.
“Quarantine day 421,” he jokingly captioned the post. “Hope y’all are staying safe,” he wrote to his 4.8 million followers before encouraging them to “spread love and kindness...not ‘Rona.”
Interestingly enough, Vulture noted “421” marks the exact number of days that has passed since January 29, 2019, the day he was allegedly attacked. This is also the first time Jussie has posted on Instagram since June of 2019.
Hopefully, Jussie’s staying safe in both health and spirit during this time!
