DMX Wants To Go Up Against Jay-Z In A Verzuz Battle

DMX sent the Internet into an uproar yesterday when he declared that he has his eye on one person who has the talent and capability to possibly go up against him in an IG battle. The Yonkers, NY native was on the latest episode of N.O.R.E and DJ EFN’s Drink Champs podcast when he expressed his interest for a mic battle.

  1. A clip from the interview surfaced online yesterday. While they had him on the hot seat, the hosts asked X who he’d be willing to hop into the virtual ring against.

“Jay,” X casually offered, without any hesitation. Stunned, Nore and EFN clarified with X that he was indeed suggesting Roc Nation mogul Jay-Z. “Yeah! Who you think?” X answered back.

This sent N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN into a tizzy with EFN cheekily adding, “which is only picking up where you guys left off, right?”

“There you go. That would be battle number three,” X noted.

As many hip-hop heads may remember, DMX and HOV haven’t always been on the best of terms. Both New York rappers emerged at the forefront of the industry in the late ‘90s during their stint at Def Jam. X and Hov almost formed a group with Queens rapper Ja Rule and even appeared on the cover of XXL Magazine’s 1999 issue, titled “Murder Inc” together. But at some point, a rift grew between the two that eventually led to their relationship becoming fractured, with X sending several shots at Jay over the years.

In 2016, it seems the hatchet had been buried after the two reunited backstage at the New Jersey stop of Beyoncé’s 2016 Formation world tour. It will be interesting to see if Jay answers the call or if he’s completely over it by now.
