BET Awards ‘20: Celebrating 20 BET Award Performances That Set The Stage On Fire

Since the very first show took place in Las Vegas in 2001, the BET Awards has been about celebrating Black excellence while uplifting our community. Year after year, some of Black music’s most trailblazing talents come together to celebrate one another. The BET Awards has been behind some of the music’s most iconic history-making moments, from Michael Jackson and James Brown taking the stage together to Rick James singing with Teena Marie in what would be his final performance.  

And even though we’re currently in the midst of a coronavirus pandemic, BET isn’t going to let that stop us from turning up for the culture, with this year’s broadcast premiering virtually on Sunday, June 28, 2020.

In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the BET Awards, we’re highlighting some of the hottest performances that set our televisions ablaze over the last 19 years.
