As tributes have continued to pour in from around the world after the passing of Rep. John Lewis, T.I. “Tip” Harris, Nas, Jamie Foxx were among the multitudes celebrities, politicians, and other notable public figures who took to social media this past weekend to pay their final respects to the civil rights icon.

  1. Last Friday (July 17), the world learned that Lewis had succumbed to his battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 80. 

    Shortly after news of Lewis’ passing, Tip took to Instagram where he saluted Lewis for his extraordinary contributions to the fight against racial injustice. 

    “Can't thank you enough for your service, King!!!” the Grand Hustle mogul wrote. “We salute you with Honor & Respect!!! Enjoy your peace Love‼️”

  2. The Roots’ Questlove penned his respects on the social platform as well with a message for people amid the current wave of unrest and upcoming 2020 elections. 

    “‘To make it hard, to make it almost impossible for people to cast a vote is not in keeping with the democratic process.’” Don’t give up the fight,” he wrote. “Rest In Power to John Lewis. Thank you for your service.”

  3. Hollywood entertainer Jamie Foxx thanked Lewis for his tireless spirit, writing, “For all that you have seen... for all that you have fought for... for all that you have endured... There will never be another one like you… We could only hope to be as Brave and as fearless as you ...rest in POWER!”

    “Thank You Rep. John Lewis !!!” Nas expressed on Instagram. “Definition of a True American. A Man who Fought for Freedom. True definition of Brave & Brilliance!!!”

    Mariah Carey, Rihanna, Ja Rule, Snoop Dogg, Jermaine Dupri and Ice Cube were among the other artists that also took to social media to commemorate Lewis’ legacy.
