Earlier this week, it was announced that the next friendly Veruz battle will be between hip hop heavyweights Rick Ross and 2 Chainz to kick off the month of August. But it appears another exciting Verzuz prospect is already shaping in what could be a legendary battle between ‘90s girl groups.
Back in May, when a TLC fan first floated the idea to T-Boz of the girl group going head-to-head with fellow groups Xscape or SWV, she was up for the challenge. Interest was further piqued after the official Instagram account for Verzuz shared the interaction on its page.
On Wednesday (July 29), Xscape’s Tamika Scott issued a response to T-Boz's desire for a ladies night on Verzuz. [T-Boz], I hear you,” she wrote, adding that she’s already discussed the matter with her groupmate, Tiny Harris, and SWV’s LeLee Lyons. “We're here for it,” she continued.Let's do it for the culture [and] have some fun, ladies!!!”
Tiny chimed in under the comment section that she was more than “ready” for the battle of hits.
Only time will tell if this happens. This past Memorial Day, Jagged Edge and 112 were the first R&B groups to go head-to-head on Verzuz, so it’s not without precedent, although it might be a handful for Swizz Beatz and Timbaland to pull off their first three-way battle. Nonetheless, the prospect of a face-off between Xscape, SWV and TLC is definitely exciting.
Plus, it would bring some much-needed female presence to the musical celebration given that the only other female-centric Verzuz challenge was Erykah Badu vs. Jill Scott. Mýa and Keyshia Cole have also recently offered their names for consideration, so it's high time for some more ladies to get back in the ring.
