Cardi B Goes Inside Hit Song ‘WAP’ With New Behind-The-Scenes-Video

Filming began in July in Los Angeles just five days before the city was shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It’s been a little over a month since Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion released their chart-topping banger, “WAP,” and on Wednesday (September 9), the Bronx-bred rap star treated fans to a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the making of the song’s music video via YouTube.

  • The nine-minute video opens with rehearsal footage of Cardi and her troupe of back-up dancers diligently learning the choreography to the song, interspersed with cuts of the construction of the glamorous sets that were featured in the blockbuster visual. Filming began in July in Los Angeles just five days before the city was shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic.

  •  At one point, Cardi donned a neon yellow netted bodysuit outfitted with a corset while dancing. The “Bodak Yellow” rapper hilariously coined a new colloquialism or, as she called, “Cardi-ism” on the spot after complaining about having some “troublesome” with the top of her outfit staying up.

Following that, the video takes viewers to the set where all the magic happened. There’s a scene where Cardi and Megan meet the snakes featured in the video for the first time, of which neither were too enthused about. Though, Megan was more afraid of them than Cardi. She took two shots of D'usse cognac to calm her nerves before meeting them.

“It was scary. The snake’s big as s**t. What are we gonna do? When you see how big these snakes are, you’re not about to be doing all that,” Megan said to Cardi, who was miming the choreography.

  • With “WAP,” Cardi spotlighted up-and-coming artists Normani, Mulatto, Rubi Rose, Rosalía, and Sukihana in the music video even though they didn’t have verses in the song. Footage of their camoes is also included in the behind-the-scenes video. Toward the end, there’s a cute moment where Cardi chants “motivation” to the beat of “WAP” as she watches on in support of Normani's dance scene.
