Hip Hop Awards 2022: 5 Things You Didn’t Know About Jack Harlow

He has openly spoken out in support of the "Black Lives Matter" movement.

Jack Harlow is a heartthrob, a chart-topper, and a 23-year-old Kentucky kid who's already making his mark in hip hop.

The “What’s Poppin’” artist has a no. 1 single, a song with Lil Wayne, and went viral for shooting his shot at Saweetie at the BET Awards 2021.

Harlow already headlined his own international tour and received success by standards those three years in the game would love to see. Let’s dive in and see what this kid from Kentucky is really about.

  1. HE’S SOBER

Last August, the “Tyler Hero” artist announced he’s staying sober during 2021 on his Instagram, noting that he’d quit at the beginning of the year.

“Haven’t had a single sip of alcohol in 2021,” he wrote on his page. “Going the rest of the year without it. Maybe I’ll never take another sip, who knows?”

  2. HAS HIS OWN MUSIC COLLECTIVE

Wiz Khalifa has Taylor Gang, Rick Ross has Maybach Music and Jack Harlow has Private Garden.

When speaking to  Flaunt, Jack explained: “It’s a collective from Louisville made up of a bunch of creatives and artists. Basically, we all went to different high schools, but we came together just out of the love of creativity and music. We’ve been working together for about three or four years now. Since before anything started buzzing. We went to South By together with no money, just trying to get discovered. So we just make music together, we make creative decisions together, we throw parties in the city, we throw shows.”

  3. GOT DRAKE AND KENDRICK COSIGNS

When you’re an up-and-coming artist in hip hop, every fan counts. In the case of Jack Harlow, he has two of the top five emcees alive as fans at once.

The cosigns came after Harlow posted a video of him rapping at a very young age that went viral. “So this is what it takes for the great ones to recognize my work?” he asked.

  4. Is A Supporter of Black Lives Matter

"You don’t just enjoy Black culture. You stand up next to Black people in a time of need," Jack Harlow said in July 2021.

As a native of Louisville, the same area city Breonna Taylor lived, Harlow has been a straunch ally when it comes to making sure everyone knows where he stands. Last July, Harlow marched in Louisville to honor Taylor and has periodically spoken out against police brutality.

“The things I was doing last summer, any fans who didn’t feel like criticizing the police or were on the other side of things, I was going to weed them out,” Harlow said. “That could have been a moment for them to no longer be fans.

  5. SAID NO TO MTV

Never say Jack Harlow was an industry plant who took handouts. When speaking to Louisville Magazine about his appearance, he mentioned declining to be on an MTV reality show about up-and-coming rappers. “I think I’d win but that’s not how I want to make it. I have to think about my image, especially with how superficial my generation is. I tell videographers to really capture how I look. Even me, I’m more likely to click a video of someone who looks interesting," he said.
