Entertainment News: Short Cuts: Hudson Joins "Sex and the City"

Posted Sept. 11, 2007 -- Carrie and her gal pals are making room for one more diva. Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson is in final negotiations to star in the big-screen adaptation of "Sex and the City."

The much-anticipated film takes place four years after the finale of the HBO series, which ended after a six-year fun. Hudson will play Carrie's assistant. Most of the original cast members are set to return, including the fab four -- Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon -- and Chris Noth as "Big."

In addition to toiling away on her first album, the "American Idol" alum just finished work on the drama "Winged Creatures," starring Forrest Whitaker. "Sex" begins shooting in New York next week.

Cheadle Makes Reservation at "Hotel for Dogs"

Don Cheadle has signed on to co-star in DreamWorks' live-action "Hotel for Dogs," reports Variety. Based on Lois Duncan's 1971 children's book, the story follows two orphaned teens who hide dozens of stray dogs in an abandoned hotel. The "Talk to Me" star will play a beleaguered social worker who keeps the kids out of trouble. "Hotel for Dogs" starts shootin in November.

Tyler Perry TV's On the Way

Tyler Perry has just launched an online TV channel to showcase his own content, including a new talk show, reports EUR. Titled TPTV, the Narrowstep-powered 24-hour channel will be available through his Web site www.tylerperry.com and offer exclusive access to the forthcoming "Tyler Perry Show."

"Part of being an artist is learning how to engage and empower my audience--my fans--with my art," Perry said. "My art is an extension of my life. I knew I wanted to create, tailor and build an Internet TV channel as a part of that extension."

Narrowstep and the William Morris Agency, which represents Perry, are working together to develop broadband-based celebrity TV channels for the agency's clients that will offer fans hours of high-quality original content and the best viewing experience available of their favorite celebrities on the Internet.
