Posted Feb. 21, 2008 -- Jesse L. Martin is leaving “Law & Order” after nine seasons as Det. Ed Green on the long-running show, reports Variety.

In an interesting turn, "K-Ville" star Anthony Anderson is expected to replace him. What that means for the future of the New Orleans-based Fox show is unclear.

Martin’s departure has been buzzed about for months. He’s expected to shoot one more episode of Dick Wolf’s NBC drama, with Anderson joining later this season. The actor-singer has played Green since 1999. He shot to fame in the original Broadway production of “Rent,” reprising his role for the movie version. He's also expected to play Marvin Gaye in an upcoming biopic.

Fox has never officially admitted that it and “K-Ville” are splitsville, but Anderson’s casting would seem to be the final nail in the coffin for the highly touted 2007 drama. He knows cop drama's well. Besides "K-Ville," he's played a detective on "Law and Order: SVU' and on F/X's "The Shield."
