Oprah Winfrey to Teach High School

Oprah Winfrey to Teach High School

The Icon Will Share Her Valuable Lessons

Published July 6, 2011

Oprah may have retired from the spotlight of daytime television where she mentored millions everyday. But that won’t stop her from continuing to teach some very lucky students. Want to take her course? Only if you’re enrolled in the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa.

According to popeater.com, Oprah revealed that she would be returning this fall to teach a class called 'It's Life 101' about all the stuff she wished someone had told her about how the world really works. Winfrey decided to teach after visiting her students recently and realizing that they could learn invaluable lessons from her mistakes. "Should be fun since I love to teach,” said Winfrey. “And they're like sponges. Like 12th graders everywhere, this first class is both anxious and excited about going to college. Most will be the first in their family. So it's a very big deal for them, and they're feeling the pressure."

The icon added: "When Chris Rock was last on the show he said, 'real wealth is having options.' I thought that was pretty profound. I now stress to my girls that education prepares you to have options. Without it you have none.”
