R. Kelly Leaves Hospital

The Grammy award-winning artist had emergency throat surgery but is healing

Published July 22, 2011

On Wednesday, R. Kelly’s rep told Us Magazine the singer had emergency surgery the day before to drain an abcess on his tonsils. Although it sounds scary, especially for a singer, the procedure must not have been too invasive. He was released from Northwestern Memorial Chicago hospital the following evening and said to be recuperating at home in Chicago.

First thinking it was the flu, Kelz tweeted last week, "I refuse to take another cup of theraflu! I feel like my throat is coming back. I've been in bed sweating like crazy." Turns out he needed surgery not cold medicine. Acknowledging his well wishers, the 44-year-old tweeted he'll be back. His publicist Allan Mayer, however, tells E! Online there’s "Still no word on when he'll be able to resume performing." That means a performance he has scheduled for Jamaica will be canceled.

The Love Letter R&B singer recently wrapped a tour throughout The States and Europe to promote the album. Llast month Adele canceled nine shows of North America tour due to laryngitis.
