Two of Hollywood's brightest rising stars landed plum roles on Tuesday. Octavia Spencer is set to star in Juno writer Diablo Cody's directorial debut, and Rashida Jones will play a supporting part opposite Helen Hunt in the indie drama, Decoding Annie Parker.
Hot off her Oscar-buzzy performance in The Help, Spencer will come back to the current decade in Cody's as-yet-untitled Las Vegas comedy, says EW.com. The film also stars Julianne Hough as a sheltered young woman who loses her faith, only to discover her "true self" with the help of Spencer and Russell Brand.
After spending most weeknights in America's living rooms on hit shows The Office and Parks and Recreation, Jones takes a break for the big screen in Decoding Annie Parker. According to the Hollywood Reporter, she'll play a research assistant who works with geneticist Mary Claire King (Helen Hunt) to find a cure for breast cancer.
Both films are due sometime in 2012.
