Was it a sting operation that took Kobe Bryant down? Well, not exactly, but TMZ reports that there was definitely some snooping by the wives of other NBA players that tipped off Vanessa Bryant to his infidelities.
According to the gossip site's sources, Kobe's teammates blabbed to their wives about his, ahem, off-court plays, and the wives in turn gave the heads up to Vanessa.
Evidently, sharing any information about a player's sexual exploits is common practice among NBA wives, largely to make sure word will get back to them in case their man ever steps out. And it's this neighborhood watch that gave Vanessa the confirmation she needed about Kobe's extracurricular activites, leading to the divorce filing.
One such rumor — spread not by a basketball wife, but an onlooker at Jay-Z and Kanye West's Watch the Throne concert in Los Angeles — claims Kobe was getting flirty with Love & Basketball star Sanaa Lathan at the sold-out show. "She touched his face, and she was shaking her a-- in front of him to the music," the source told the Daily News.
Lathan denied the rumor outright. "Can a girl have some fun at a Jay-Z, Kanye concert without being linked to a breakup? I AM NOT, NEVER HAVE BEEN, INVOLVED WITH KOBE IN ANY WAY," she writes, adding, "Anybody who pays attention knows I'm not his type ... Blank stare," she tweeted.
No doubt, gossip rags will be flooded with stories by women who are "Kobe's type" in the coming weeks.
