L.A. Reid Will Not Return to The X Factor

The Sony music boss will sit out season three to return to his day job.

L.A. Reid is ready to take a break from primetime. The record executive, who has served as a judge on hit television talent show The X Factor for the past two seasons, will not be returning for season three, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.
"I have the utmost respect for [X Factor creator] Simon Cowell," Reid said on Thursday. "He is the very best, and I have the opportunity to learn so much from him. Working with him on X Factor has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I'm honored to have sat on the panel with such incredible talent."
Reid, who was the first panelist hired by Cowell upon launch of the show, has been both judge and mentor on The X Factor. The music mogul says he will continue to do the same work in the office as he did in front of cameras. "I'm looking forward to getting back to my core business and the responsibility of running Epic Records."
There has been no word yet on who will replace Reid on season three of The X Factor.
