Morgan Freeman School Shooting Rant Was Fake

The actor fell victim to another internet hoax.

Published December 18, 2012

Morgan Freeman has been the subject of more than one Internet hoax, but the latest one couldn't be more ill-timed. A statement credited to the actor criticizing the media coverage of the Newtown, Connecticut, school shooting is false, representatives for Freeman claim.

"It’s because of the way the media reports it,” reads the fake statement attributed to Freeman. “Turn on the news and see how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single 'victim' of Columbine?" The controversial statement concludes, “So congratulations, sensationalist media, you’ve just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or maternity ward next.”

The false statement was credited to a Reddit user named Mark from Vancouver. While Freeman has been silent on the tragic shooting, many other celebs are weighing in offering sympathy and lobbying for stricter gun laws. President Obama made a moving statement to the families of the young victims. is your #1 source for Black celebrity news, photos, exclusive videos and all the latest in the world of hip hop and R&B music.
