Khloe Kardashian Speaks Out on Lamar Odom Charity Scandal

The reality star stands by her man amid allegations of misused funds.

Khloe Kardashian takes her marriage vows very seriously. The reality star is sticking by her husband Lamar Odom, for better and for worse, while he weathers a scandal involving his charity Cathy's Kids.

ESPN's Outside the Lines revealed information that nearly $1 million of the $2.2 million raised by the charity is unaccounted for, and there are no records that the money was donated to cancer research, as the mission statement says. According to skeptics, the balance of the funds was given to a pair of "elite" basketball leagues that train young athletes already on the radar of pro scouts: hardly providing opportunities for "underprivileged kids" as the charity boasts.

Now, Kardashian has broken her silence to stand up for her man. "It is unfortunate that my husband has been the target of an attack on athletes’ charities, although he has personally contributed approximately $2.2 million to his foundation, Cathy’s Kids, to fulfill its charitable purposes that include helping underprivileged inner-city youth," says the reality star in a statement on her blog.

"All of the funds donated by Lamar and the other contributions to Cathy’s Kids were used for one of the foundation’s intended charitable purposes," Kardashian writes in defense of her husband. "Not one penny went to help Lamar personally or any member of his family. No charitable funds were misused, and the IRS has repeatedly given Cathy’s Kids a clean bill of health, confirming that there were no improprieties."

She concludes, "Cathy’s Kids was formed with several purposes in mind, including benefitting underprivileged youth and cancer research." She then elaborates, "A decision was ultimately made that the charity should focus on one of those purposes — to help enrich the lives of underprivileged inner-city youth. It accomplished that goal."

While some may still raise an eyebrow about the lack of accounting of the remaining $1 million, hopefully Khloe's words will silence some of the haters and Odom can focus on competing in the upcoming NBA playoffs.
