The race is on to Broadway's biggest night!

The nominations for the 2013 Tony Awards have been announced, and this may finally be Cicely Tyson's year. The veteran actress recieved her first-ever nod, for her role in The Trip to Bountiful, despite a career that's in its sixth decade. The Broadway revival of Horton Foote's drama also stars Cuba Gooding, Jr., Vanessa Williams and Condola Rashad. Rashad was also nominated for her performance.

British invasion musical Kinky Boots was the most nominated show with 13 nods, including a Best Actor in a Musical nomination for Billy Porter, who plays a drag queen in the crowd-pleaser. The revival features music by Cyndi Lauper, also nominated.

Hit-loaded Motown: The Musical, produced by music legend Berry Gordy, was largely shut out of the major nominations, earning only four nods despite huge popularity with audiences. Even Brandon Victor Dixon, who plays Gordy, was overlooked. However, stars Charl Brown, who plays Smokey Robinson, and Valisia LeKae, who plays Diana Ross, are up for Best Actor and Actress in a Musical, respectively.

Angela Bassett's hubby Courtney B. Vance is nominated for a featured role in Lucky Guy, the Nora Ephron play also starring Tom Hanks. Patina Miller also nabbed a nom for the celebrated musical Pippin, and Shalita Grant was recognized for her performance in the play Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.

The star-packed season on Broadway means some big names had to be shut out from the nominations. Al Pacino, Katie Holmes and Bette Midler are just a few of the names on that list, as are The Trip to Bountiful stars Vanessa Williams and Cuba Gooding, Jr.

The nominations were announced at the New York Public Library for Performing Arts by Tony-winner Sutton Foster and Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson.

The awards will take place at Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, June 9 and broadcast on CBS.
