The Starship Enterprise has wings!

Star Trek Into Darkness scored the top spot at the box office this weekend, earning $84.1 million and knocking Iron Man 3 down to second place. That film, which last week became the second highest-grossing film of all time (behind The Avengers), took in another $35 million in change and is in the billion dollar club in terms of worldwide gross.

Gatsby came in third, followed by Pain & Gain and, surprisingly, 42. The Jackie Robinson biopic has hung into the top five for over a month now, despite so-so reviews.

Next week, the summer blockbuster bonanza continues with Fast & Furious 6 and the animated Epic. Will either have what it takes to knock Star Trek out of orbit?
