Forest Whitaker: "I Believe in Social Justice"

The prolific actor and producer on The Butler and Fruitvale Station.

Published August 14, 2013

Forest Whitaker is at the center of two of the most talked-about films of the summer — as producer of Fruitvale Station and the star of Lee Daniels' The Butler. The films clearly share similar themes of social justice and racism, things Whitaker himself became intimately familiar with after an incident last year in which he was stopped and frisked at a New York City deli.

Now, the prolific actor and producer, an Oscar winner for The Last King of Scotland, talks to us about his views on social justice, being the silent force behind bringing Fruitvale Station to life and how he manages to play such a broad range of roles.

Check out our exclusive interview with Forest Whitaker below, and see Lee Daniels' The Butler in theaters everywhere starting Friday, August 16. is your #1 source for Black celebrity news, photos, exclusive videos and all the latest in the world of hip hop and R&B music.
