Naturi Naughton: "How Come There's Just One Slot for the Black Girl?"

The actress talks being dark-skinned in Hollywood.

Naturi Naughton has had star potential since her days in the girl group 3LW. The singer and actress, who had a big screen breakthrough as Lil Kim in Notorious, has been steadily building an enviable career in Hollywood over the past few years.

Naughton, who recently joined the cast of 50 Cent's new Starz drama Power, talks to us about being a dark-skinned woman in Hollywood. "It's a challenge working in an industry that goes for a certain look. I have definitely been in situations where I have felt like the less desirable choice," she says. "Why is there always one slot for the Black girl?

Still, the actress remains positive about her career and herself, "Being a darker-skinned woman, I love myself, I love my skin. I think the world is really opening up to all different kinds of beauty."
