Box Office: Captain America Shatters Records

Winter Soldier stuns with $96 million at the box office.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier destroyed April box-office records this weekend with a whopping $96 million in domestic ticket sales, and $303.3 million worldwide.

The superhero sequel, starring Chris EvansSamuel L. Jackson and Anthony Mackie, grossed $37 million from nearly 4,000 theaters on Friday, the biggest day ever for the month of April.

Coming in second place was Noah, which dropped 60 percent to $17 million. The biblical epic starring Russell Crowe has grossed $178 million globally.

Taking the third spot was Divergent, starring Shailene Woodley and Zoe Kravitz, bringing in $13 million. Rounding out the top five were the Christian film God’s Not Dead and Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel, which brought in $7.7 million and $6.3 million, respectively.

Frankie & Alice, starring Halle Berry and based on the true story of a Black go-go dancer who suffered from multiple personality disorder (one alter ego was a 7-year-old child, while another was a Southern white racist), opened in 171 theaters on Friday. The drama, for which Berry earned a Golden Globe nomination in 2012, grossed an underwhelming $350,000.
