Captain America: Winter Soldier is the season's first bona fide blockbuster, grossing $41.4 million at the box office and coming in first for the second weekend in a row.
The superhero sequel, starring Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson and Anthony Mackie, raked in $476.1 million worldwide, already passing the first film’s $370.6 million total.
Animated film Rio 2 came in a close second with $39 million, and horror film Oculus, which earned $12 million, came in a distant third.
Rounding out the top five were Kevin Costner and Jennifer Garner‘s Draft Day and Divergent, which grossed $9.8 million and $7.5 million, respectively. Draft Day, which also stars Terry Crews and Chadwick Boseman, came in below expectations but should still be on track to recoup its $25 million budget.
Next week, A Haunted House 2 enters the mix, along with Johnny Depp’s thriller Transcendence.
