Box Office: Gone Girl Wins the Weekend
Psycho spouses beat out possessed dolls at the box office this weekend. Gone Girl, the big-budget thriller from director David Fincher, took the top spot with $38 million, narrowly edging out horror flick Annabelle, which came in second with $37.2 million.
The moody whodunit, starring Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike and a memorable performance by Tyler Perry, is a surprise victor considering its more than two-hour running time.
Denzel Washington and Antoine Fuqua's latest collaboration, The Equalizer, slipped to third place after topping the box office last weekend, but still pulled in an impressive $19 million.
Rounding out the top five were animated family film The Boxtrolls and The Maze Runner, which earned $12.4 and $12 million respectively.
Next week, Boris Kodjoe and Sharon Leal will bring sexy back to the box office with the release of Addicted.
