Eddie Murphy Will Return to SNL After 30 Years

Actor says he will participate in the show's 40th anniversary special.

Saturday Night Live's prodigal son is coming home. Eddie Murphy, one of the biggest stars to emerge from the sketch comedy show, will return to the long-running series for its 40th anniversary episode. His return will be the first time in 30 years, since he left the show to pursue his film career, that he will be back on SNL's stage.
Eddie Murphy recently explained to Roland Martin on NewsOne Now why he’d never hosted an episode of SNL: "It’s just timing. It never worked out where the timing was right for me to do it." Murphy then revealed his involvement with the show's anniversary bonanza to Martin. "Actually, they are having a 40th anniversary, I think, in two weeks. I’m going to that. That will be the first time I have been back since I left."
The 40th anniversary special episode is scheduled for February 15.
