As Bobbi Kristina Brown continues to fight for her life, showing signs of progress that include reduced swelling in her brain and increased eye movement, new details emerged about the 21-year-old's relationship with "husband" Nick Gordon.
According to a statement from her dad Bobby Brown's lawyer, the young couple is not actually married.
"We are currently investigating the events that led to the hospitalization of Bobbi Kristina," Christopher Brown of Brown & Rosen LLC said in a statement on Tuesday, Feb. 3. "To correct earlier reports, Bobbi Kristina is not and has never been married to Nick Gordon."
The news comes as a bit of a surprise considering Brown and Gordon themselves announced their supposed marriage via Twitter in January 2014. At the time, she posted a photo of their hands with what appeared to be wedding bands, along with the caption "@nickgordon! #HappilyMarried SO #InLove. If you didn't get it the first time that is."
They later told TMZ that they were planning an official celebration in the coming months, adding that Brown's grandmother, Cissy Houston, had given the marriage her blessing after initially expressing disapproval. Brown and Gordon were effectively raised as siblings after Whitney Houston took him in when he was 12 years old and raised him as a son.
Both the Brown family and police investigations of what happened on Saturday morning, when Bobbi Kristina was discovered unconscious and face down in her bathtub, have yielded new information. Brown was discovered by Gordon and a male friend, Max Lomas, who just two weeks prior was arrested for allegedly drugging his girlfriend and for possession of a firearm and drugs with intent to distribute, according to TMZ. However, Lomas denies any involvement in the Bobbi Kristina tragedy.
And while an initial police sweep of the condo she shares with Gordon didn't find any illegal substances, a second look may have uncovered some items, according to Brown's family. Atlanta police are not commenting on the ongoing investigation.
Bobbi Kristina, meanwhile, has been moved from North Fulton Hospital to Emory University Hospital, ABC News reports, where she continues to fight for her life. While her progress has been significant, doctors are reportedly advising the Brown family not to read too much into it, as considerable brain damage has already likely occurred.
