Iconic actor and comedian Eddie Murphy has reportedly joined the cast of the Lee Daniels-directed Richard Pryor biopic. The Coming to America star will play the late comic's father, LeRoy "Buck Carter" Pryor, in the film.
According to Entertainment Tonight, the news was confirmed by Daniels, who posted a selfie with Murphy to Instagram with the caption, "Strap in and brace yourself. They done let me and him out of our cages! #idonteventhinkimreadyforthisone! #excited #proud #OMG."
It was also confirmed that Kate Hudson has been cast to play Pryor's wife, Jennifer Pryor, who is also a producer on the film. Oprah Winfrey, who is also set to produce, will portray Pryor's grandmother Marie Carter.
Murphy, Hudson and Winfrey will join Mike Epps, who has been cast to portray the lead role of Richard Pryor in the highly anticipated biopic. The film was first announced in January 2014 and will be produced under the Weinstein Company.
