Trevor Noah Will Replace Jon Stewart on The Daily Show

The South African comedian is officially the new host.

Trevor Noah will be stepping into some very big shoes. The actor and comedian will replace Jon Stewart as the head of The Daily ShowThe Hollywood Reporter reports. "Trevor was on [the short list] from day one," says Michele Ganeless, president of Comedy Central. "The more time we spent with him, the more it became apparent he was the right person for the job."
Trevor is so smart and so funny and such a citizen of the world that it just became very clear that he could do this job better than anyone else.
Though he joined the popular fake news program as a contributor only at the end of last year, once Stewart leaves the show later this year, the South African comedian will take over.

The network is already the only one to feature a Black host in the late night time slot, which is The Nightly Show host Larry Wilmore who takes the helm just after The Daily Show. Ganeless says having two Black hosts back-to-back in late night is a happy coincidence rather than a concerted effort to diversify. "This is not by design," says Ganeless. "Trevor and Larry were hired because they are the right people for these jobs."

One thing Noah, 31, has in common with his would-be predecessor is a willingness to address tough issues. In South Africa, race and politics were a big part of his stand-up routine. Noting that his mother is a Black South African and his father a white Swiss, he once told an audience, “I was born a crime,” according to a 2013 report in the Wall Street Journal.
Congrats to Trevor Noah!
