Disney has been protecting details about it's upcoming Star Wars franchise reboot, but yesterday the studio satisfied the fanboys with a barrage of new info. The part that we're most excited about is finally finding out who Lupita Nyong'o will play in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.
As revealed in the June issue of Vanity Fair, Nyong’o will play a CGI character named Maz Kanata in the film. Kanata is a pirate with no allegiances to either the Resistance (the new name for the Rebel Alliance) or the First Order (the new Empire).
The official news confirms the persistent rumors on the blogosphere that Nyong'o will play a digital character. What's more, she may be carrying a very special accessory. After the most recent Force Awakens trailer was released, Uproxx also speculated that Nyong’o’s character was in possession of Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber.
Nyong'o's co-star John Boyega, we learned last year, plays a stormtrooper. Details of other characters from The Force Awakens can be found at VanityFair.com.
Whether wielding a lightsaber or walking a red carpet, Lupita is a style star through and through. Watch Lupita talk exclusively to BET.com about her signature look below:
