Porsche Responds to Paul Walker Wrongful Death Lawsuit
One day after Paul Walker's teenage daughter, Meadow Walker, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Porsche, claiming the vehicle her father was in at the time of his deadly crash was faulty, the luxury automaker has responded to the suit.
"We are saddened whenever anyone is hurt in a Porsche vehicle, but we believe the authorities' reports in this case clearly established that this tragic crash resulted from reckless driving and excessive speed," the company said in a statement to People magazine.
Indeed, a report by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's department concluded that the 2005 Porsche Carrera GT, driven by Walker's friend Roger Rodas, was traveling "between 80 and 93 mph at the time the car impacted a power pole and several trees." That's nearly double the posted speed limit of 45 miles per hour. However, the lawsuit alleges that Porsche had knowledge that "the Carrera GT had a history of instability and control issues." In addition, the suit claims a "defective" seat belt design kept Walker trapped in the car, and that the actor might have been able to exit the vehicle before it caught on fire were it not for this flaw.
