Two of our favorite actresses have new projects in the works for 2016.
Being Mary Jane star Gabrielle Union will star in and executive produce the holiday comedy A Meyer's Christmas for director David E. Talbot (Baggage Claim) and super-producer Will Packer. Originally titled A Meyers Thanksgiving, the film centers on an estranged family brought together over Christmas for the first time since their mother's passing. A Meyer's Christmas will hit theaters next November.
Sanaa Lathan, hot off the success of her thriller The Perfect Guy is teaming up with Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Rock Bythewood for a serialized television drama about a racially charged police killing in Texas. The project reunites Sanaa and Gina after their collaboration on the beloved movie Love & Basketball.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the untitled drama examines the dangerous aftermath of a police shooting when an African-American cop kills a white teen in Tennessee. Lathan will play an expert investigator who digs into the case, alongside a special prosecutor sent to the town by the Department of Justice. The pair must navigate the media attention, public debate and the social unrest that comes with such a volatile case, as they seek justice before the divided town erupts in a race war.
You can catch it on the Fox network next year as well, and in the meantime, check out our recent interview with Sanaa, below:
