It's been more than a year since Tracy Morgan was involved in that near-death car crash, and now that he's fully recovered, the comedian made his big return to the SNL stage last night (October 17). Making it an episode to remember –– made even more so with Larry David as Bernie Sanders –– Morgan was also joined by his former 30 Rock co-stars for the epic showcase.
According to E! Online, he made light of his injuries during his opening monologue: "People were wondering, 'Can he speak? Does he have 100 percent mental capacity?' But the truth is, I never did," he joked. "I might actually be a few points higher now."
He even spoke on how his appearance came to be, and it was a pretty simple and thoughtful story: "I said 'Lorne [SNL creator], when I get back on my feet, I want to come home,' and here I am." Simple as that.
He then went into a set where he pretty much recreated what he called a "prophetic" moment from a 2012 episode of 30 Rock where his character was almost killed. The crowd went nuts when he was joined by his former co-stars, Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Jane Krakowski and Jack McBrayer.
At the end of the set, Fey took a break from the comedy to share these sweet words with her friend. "I just want to say one last thing, Tracy, from the heart and this part is no joke. We're so happy that you're okay and we're happier that you're ready to make people laugh again."
We couldn't agree more. Take a look at some of the SNL highlights in the clips, and watch the comedian's moving speech at this year's Emmys, below:
