Zendaya Is Not Here for Twitter Questioning Her Blackness

The actress seriously clapped back.

It seems like people always have something to say about Zendaya's Blackness. From her hair to her skin tone, she's dealt with backlash from both sides of the racial divide about her identity. A comment she made during a recent interview with Complex seems to have stoked the fire, garnering a small tidal wave of shade on social media.

“But to literally be two races, it’s really hard to see color because I’m the gray area…” she told the magazine. Complex tweeted that exact quote on Wednesday to promote the December/January issue, which features Zendaya as its cover star, and the hate quickly started pouring in:

Well, Z wasn't about to take the criticism lying down. She quickly hopped on Twitter to send a message to those tempted to judge her based on one quote, and even excerpted the full section of the story to give it context:

Welp, nice try though.
