Bill Cosby's Lawyers Are Trying to Silence His Wife

Camille Cosby is being asked to testify.

Bill Cosby’s lawyers really don't want his wife to talk. On Friday, the fallen icon's legal team said that they will fight an attempt to force Camille Cosby into giving a sworn deposition in connection with the defamation suit filed by seven of Cosby's alleged victims.
A lawyer representing Cosby's accusers subpoenaed Camille Cosby to be deposed on January 6, but the comedian’s lawyers filed a motion counteracting the subpoena, saying his wife has "no firsthand, non-repetitive knowledge" of issues in the suit. They also argued that Mrs. Cosby was protected by the Massachusetts spousal disqualification rule, saying that a “witness shall not testify as to private conversations with a spouse occurring during their marriage.”
The plaintiffs' lawyer retaliated by sharing that Camille Cosby was her husband’s business manager during the years of the alleged assaults, stating, “I think she has information that’s relevant to the litigation in this matter.” Cosby's lawyers say this is “nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt to pressure defendant in the face of subjecting his wife to the shame and embarrassment of responding to question about his alleged infidelities and sexual misconduct.”
The seven women suing Cosby are among the approximately 50 women who have come forward over the last year, claiming that he sexually assaulted or had unwanted contact with them over the past several decades.
